ILEAD
Summer Literacy Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children
Empowering Every Child to Read, Learn and Lead
The Intensive Literacy Enrichment Activities for Diverse Populations (ILEAD) program is a summer literacy experience created especially for deaf and hard of hearing children from diverse and underserved backgrounds.
At ILEAD, we believe every child deserves access to the joy and power of reading, through literature that is representative of their cultures and lived experiences. Our three-week program combines small-group instruction, hands-on learning and interactive reading strategies to help children build and strengthen overall vocabulary and literacy skills.
Hosted at The River School, ILEAD is facilitated by dedicated speech-language therapists, educators and specialists. Students engage in a range of engaging activities that build language skills and foster a deeper love of learning and self.
By the end of the summer, the goal is for ILEAD participants to not only grow in language and literacy skills, but also gain tools to express themselves, connect with others and continue learning with confidence.
Program fees are flexible based on family need, and include meals during session hours and transportation.
ILEAD is made possible by a generous grant from The Alexander and Margaret Stewart Trust Foundation (since 2018).
