Camp River is for children ages 3 to 10 (rising Preschool through rising Grade 4). Campers include current students, former students and children from neighboring communities.

Camp River provides children with a balanced schedule of creative, intellectual and physical activities which serve as an “educational bridge” for the summer months. In age-based groups, campers explore new topics and face exciting challenges, all focused on weekly themes.

Camp Counselors (Ages 15+)

Camp Counselors get to have fun with children and gain valuable experience and leadership skills. You will help manage a class of children, design activities and work as a team with other counselors to keep camp running smoothly. This is an hourly paid position. Experience with children and committing to all six weeks are preferred but not required. Email Camp Director Capitola Anderson if you're interested in working at Camp River 2021.

Camp River 2020 Cancelled

Refunds Will Be Issued to Registered Campers

May 18, 2020

Dear Camp River Families,

I am sad to share the news that we’ve made the heartbreaking decision to cancel Camp River this summer. Given DC’s recent extension of the stay-at-home order to June 8 and the uncertainty around the city’s reopening date, we felt it was the best thing to do. Our priority will always focus on the health and safety of our campers and their families and our staff. Please know that we will miss everyone dearly and we are already looking forward to 2021 and hoping to see you all in person then!

We will be processing refunds to all who have registered and paid for sessions. We kindly ask you for your patience as we complete this complex process. We estimate a completion date of June 15 for all refunds. The refunds will be issued in the same format that your payments were made. Please be aware that you may receive multiple emails from the Active Network (each week of camp will generate a separate email). Your refund may look incomplete until we get through all the weeks.

For many of the staff, this will be the first summer in many years that we haven’t attended camp in some capacity. For me personally, it is the first summer without camp in over 30 years! We will miss you greatly, and we don’t want to leave you without any camp fun, albeit in a necessarily different format. Stay tuned for updates on our Summer Enrichment Online program (registration opens in the coming weeks), as well as some our Camp River: Fun From Afar newsletters that we’ll be sending out to everyone who registered.

 Thank you for your understanding,

Water fun at Summer Camp!
